Holding a PhD in plant genetics from Harvard University and a diploma in business management from Harvard Business School, he possesses a unique blend of scientific expertise and entrepreneurial acumen. Driven by a passion for innovation, he has played a pivotal role in shaping the global hybrid-seed industry, establishing and nurturing successful enterprises across the United States, Europe, Egypt, and India.
As founder and chairman of Misr Hytech Seed International, SAE-Egypt, Dr. Sehgal’s visionary leadership and deep understanding of the agricultural sector propelled the company, from its inception in 1993, to the forefront of the industry as the largest corn and sorghum seed company in the Middle East.
Dr. Suri Sehgal has garnered numerous awards throughout his career, including the 2022 Dr. M S Swaminathan Award for Leadership in Agriculture. Beyond his achievements in business, Dr. Sehgal is a dedicated philanthropist committed to the holistic development of rural India. He is founder and chairman of the Sehgal Foundation, USA, and S M Sehgal Foundation, India (www.smsfoundation.org), organizations dedicated to empowering rural communities through integrated development initiatives. He also founded the William L. Brown Centre at Missouri Botanical Garden in St Louis, Missouri, USA. As an Emeritus Trustee of the Garden, which is globally renowned for its research on plant diversity, conservation, and botanical field work, Dr. Sehgal’s contributions have been instrumental in advancing scientific knowledge in this field.
